It all began in 1863 in Chelsea, when pharmacist James Burroughs bought the 'Taylor & Son' distillery. He devoted his time to expanding his clientele and experimenting with new flavors and new distillation processes. That was how he invented Beefeater Gin. The success was so great that it became the flagship product of the company. The name "Beefeater" was chosen, ie that of the "Yeoman Warders", the guards of the Tower of London, thus associating the product with one of the symbols of the city. A revolutionary marketing strategy for the time as all the other gins were named after the name of the producing family or the place of production. In 1958 the company was moved to the Kennington district, where it is still located today. It is in fact one of the few still operating distilleries in the city of London. Beefeater is one of the largest and best known gin brands not only because of its classic style.
Maceration of the peel of lemons, Seville oranges, juniper berries and other botanicals takes place for 24 hours before distillation. This long process allows a complete extraction of the flavor of the vegetables, capturing a wide range of volatile oils. The distillation takes about eight hours, under the careful supervision of master distiller Desmond Payne.
