Elephant Gin is distilled using 14 botanicals, including rare African ingredients that weren't used in a gin. The botanicals are hand-selected to limit impurities and ensure that only the highest quality ingredients are used, they are left to macerate all together in the still for a day, using the "one shot" method. The traditional copper alembic was designed and built by Arnold Holstein and small batches of 600 - 700 bottles are produced with it. On the nose Elephant Gin stands out for its light notes of juniper, accompanied by the more balsamic ones of the mountain pine and the more herbaceous ones. On the palate it is a complex but very soft gin, which balances floral, fruity and spicy flavors.

The idea of creating a gin that was inspired by Africa was born thinking of the traditional drinks to drink at sunset after a day in the South African forest, which are often Gin Tonic. The love for African exotic botanicals and the idea that they could make a premium gin interesting when combined with traditional botanicals are the basis of the birth of Elephant Gin. All the bottles are personalized, the label is handwritten and the logo refers to the characters used in the letters that nineteenth-century explorers sent home telling about the botanicals they had discovered and their adventures. The caps are made of natural cork from Spain. Since its inception in September 2013, Elephant Gin has donated 15% of the proceeds from sales to two foundations dedicated to the preservation of African flora and fauna: Big Life Foundation's Ranger Club, very active in Kenya and Tanzania, and Space For Elephants Foundation, which seeks to involve South African communities in the enhancement of local wildlife by creating employment opportunities through the creation of tourist attractions. Each batch of Elephant Gin is named after a large fanged animal from the past or the elephants the foundations are helping to protect.
